Fly North and drive West
back to Reykjavik

Here’s a great way to get more Iceland out of your time there. Fly halfway, so you can saunter vehicularly back to your starting point! Akureyri is 389 km from Reykjavik, and the drive can take 5 hours (or 5 days!) These two tours include a flight between Reykjavik and Akureyri, where you pick up (or drop off) your car, which gives you more time for enjoying the landscape with all it’s potential fun as you head back to your starting point - you don’t drive both coming and going. To Drive West (via the horse country of Skagafjordur, fishing villages, and saga sights ?) or East and South (Lake Myvatn, the dramatic east fjords, and lush south coast?) You decide!!
This tour can be reversed - that is you can fly north and drive back, or drive north and end the trip by flying south!

Drive west to Akureyri – fly back to Reykjavik (or vise versa) in 8 days / 7 nights - year round.

Day 0
Leave the US. Go to sleep - as it’s a short night flight!

Day 1
Welcome to Iceland! Grab your luggage and your car, and hit the road! You could explore the Reykjanes Peninsula and soak in the Blue Lagoon(after 9 AM) on your way into Reykjavik. Overnight in a Fosshótel in Reykjavík or similar.

Day 2 and 3
Start in the south, wind your way slowly north. Lots of options - visit the Golden Circle: Thingvellir’s historic
and geologically fascinating park, huge hot springs and spouting Geysir and the double waterfall, Gulfoss. Do
some exploring on Snaefellsnes and its seaside villages and glacier. Squeeze in a boat trip across Breiðafjörður

Day 4
North to Skagafjordur, with boat trips out to islands full of bird nests, a preserved turf manor house (with links to America, circa 1000 AD), horse back or rafting white water rivers. Fosshótel Dalvik or similar for tonight.

Day 5 and 6
Passing through Akureyri on to the whale watching town of Husavik and the bird life, landscape and geothermal wonders around Lake Myvatn. Fosshótel Húsavík or Fosshotel Laugur.

Day 7
Explore the natural wonders of Lake Mývatn, the hot springs at Námaskarð and the lava fields at Krafla. Fly back to Reykjavík and enjoy a walk through the center of Reykjavík, sampling some night life, maybe! Overnight at a Fosshótel in Reykjavík or similar.

Day 8
Morning to relax, see Reykjavik, do museums, shops, pools or the Blue Lagoon. Drop car at airport and hop on plane for home!
